What equipment is more important to golfers than their golf clubs? With a consistent swing, and the right clubs, playing good golf is much easier. The problem is there are so many different brands and types to choose from. How do you know which ones are right for you? Once you’re certain about which ones you want, how do you know you’re getting the lowest price? Hopefully GolfClubsConsultant.com will be a great help to you.
About Me
I started playing golf when I was about 13, and I loved it instantly. The following year, I started high school, and I decided to go out for the golf team. I was a terrible player, but thankfully, they let me stick around and play free golf. The following year I was quite a bit better, but still not very good, but thanks to the fact that a couple of seniors graduated, I made the team, along with a couple of fellow sophomores. We gradually improved over the years, and we won the league championship my senior year.
I enjoy golf, and I learned so many lessons from playing competitively. I still think about the long summers when I was able to hang out at the golf course all day. I don’t get to play near as much, but I still love the game.
Drivers
A good drive is twice as long as a major league home run, but must be several times more accurate if you have any hope of playing from the fairway. I guess we can be grateful that golf is the only sport where the ball is not moving. It’s important to have a good driver--not just a good driver--but one you have confidence in. The difference between a great round and a round with several lost balls is your driver.
Fairway Woods
On long courses (or any course with a par 5) you must have fairway woods that you can rely on. Even on courses that are short, fairway woods are great to tee off with, as some holes just don't set up for a driver. A strategy that is gaining in popularity is replacing your long irons with woods.
Iron
Irons are also an important part of the game, and there are dozens of brands to choose from. Consideration should be put into what the flex of the shaft should be, and whether you’re of average height or extra tall or short.
Wedges
The short game is so important to your score, and wedges are a big part of the short game. A pitching wedge usually comes with the set of irons, but depending on how many clubs you carry, you may have to find your own gap wedge (usually 52°), sand wedge (usually 56°), and lob wedge (60°). This is a great part of the game to practice, as you can save yourself a lot of strokes with a good short game.
Putters

Nothing has driven more men to suicide than the stock market and three-putting. The secret here is to get a putter you like and have confidence in, so when you’re standing over that three footer, you can knock it in. All of the putters on the market today, are well designed, and confidence and practice are the most important aspects in putting.
Hybrid Clubs
Hybrid clubs are sometimes known as utility clubs. You may want to consider adding a hybrid club to your bag; they’re such versatile clubs. They’re great for when you have a tight lie. Who wants to hit a 3 iron from a lie that is less than ideal. Who really wants to hit a 3 iron from a great lie? The long irons are difficult to hit, and hybrids are so much easier. You can even use them for long putts and bump and run shots.
Women’s Clubs
Women generally have slower swing speed, so special consideration should be given to more flexible shafts. Also, women are more likely to benefit from having irons with graphite shafts, which are not as heavy as steel shafts.
Junior Clubs
Clubs for kids are designed more for their height, and you can get golf club sets that are very reasonably priced. The other great thing about junior golf is that they can play in tournaments at great courses for just a few dollars. The golf industry wants to get kids addicted to golf, so that they can have a life-long golf addict paying full price. Of course the low prices are fun while they last, and it’s possible for kids to get involved in playing golf at a reasonable price.
Used Golf Clubs
The internet is a great place for matching up buyers and sellers of used clubs for great savings. You can even send your old clubs into the same company you buy from, and get a store credit. That way, you don’t have to sell them for a few bucks at a yard sale.
Golf Club Sets
Buying a full set of clubs can be a good way to save a lot of money. Depending on which one you choose, you can get all of the clubs you need all at once. If you’re new to the game, this is probably the best way to go.
Custom Golf Clubs
It’s important to have the right clubs, even if it means getting them custom made. There really aren’t that many measurements and specifications you have to provide, and unless you really upgrade the shaft or something, it will cost the same amount for custom clubs as it does for clubs off the shelf.
Price
Golf clubs can be expensive, and it’s important for your peace of mind to know that you get the best available price. After comparing prices on the big internet retailers, it’s clear that they’re all very competitive with each other, and they usually charge less for shipping than it would cost to drive to the store to buy what you want. While some less well-known retailers will show lower prices, they charge more for shipping, so it all ends up even in the end. For example, for a set of Taylor Made r7 TP irons, all of the big online stores were within $1 of each other.
Selection
Another great thing about shopping online is that there is such a great selection. There are dozens of companies, each with its line of irons, drivers, putters, wedges, hybrids, and woods. A typical store could never keep all of those products in stock.

My Driver
There was an unofficial assistant coach for our team, Billy, who was really a volunteer who knew more about how to help people with their golf swings more than the coach who was employed by the school district. One day, Billy let me try hitting his Cobra driver, and I was hooked. I hit it much farther and straighter than my other driver. I had always heard the adage, “it’s not the arrows; it’s the Indians.” Certainly that is true to a certain extent, but golf is hard enough without the right clubs.
Billy was a very nice guy, and he let me borrow his Cobra driver for our next tournament. The tournament was at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa, Colorado, and it’s a course with very tight fairways. I managed to stay out of the trees that day due in part to the new driver, my confidence in the driver, and the golf tips Billy gave me. Shortly after that I got a Cobra driver of my own, and there were plenty of times when I still had to play out of the weeds and trees, but overall, my game improved for having a driver that fit my game.
