When your brain says that it’s perfectly safe for you to sit right here, one foot behind J.B. Holmes as he takes a big whack at the ball with a Cobra Speed driver, your heart tells you to move out of the way. I don’t blame David Feherty for flinching when Holmes hits the ball. Feherty definitely earned his pay for this Cobra golf clubs commercial.
J.B. Holmes won the FBR Open this year, as indicated in the commercial. He defeated Phil Mickelson in a sudden death playoff. On that hole, Holmes hit a 359 yard drive, and knocked in an eight foot putt for birdie. That dropped Mickelson’s playoff record to a very respectable 7-3. Holmes won the FBR Open in 2006, and he’s one of seven players to win his first two tournaments at the same course since 1960.
2008 was a good year for J.B. Holmes. After winning a little over $1 million at the FBR Open, he was a captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup team. With the Ryder Cup being held in Kentucky, and Holmes being from Kentucky, he turned out to be a good choice and played very well in the Ryder Cup.
Although the contest wasn’t too close, J.B. Holmes' come-from-behind victory over Soren Hansen clinched the Ryder Cup for the United States. Holmes’ 2008 earnings were $2,134,493. 1991 was also a good year for Holmes. When he was in the third grade, he played for his high school in Taylor County, Kentucky.
Here’s the video:
