From 340 feet above Petco Park, Briny Baird hit 10 golf balls at a target that was 268 yards away. The target was in right field, and the purpose was charity. For each bull’s eye, P.F. Chang’s donated $2000. The inner and outer ring meant a donation of $1000 and $500. He scored on 8 out of 10 shots, and earned $17,500 for the San Diego Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society. He started out thinking a 5-iron was the right club, but an easy 9-iron turned out to be the right club.
Also, since old Briny put 2 shots in the bull’s eye, everyone in America gets a free wrap from P.F. Chang’s with the purchase of an entrée.
Here’s a look at the setup. The interesting part of the video starts around the 5 minute mark.
I think we all dream of being able to hit a shot like that. I remember around dusk when my friends and I were the only ones left on the course, and we would play cross-country golf. That’s when we would play from the #1 tee box to #4 green, and just wander all over the course making up our own holes. That was fun, but how much fun would it be to do that in downtown San Diego?
