TaylorMade Golf Clubs Give Nathan Green His First Victory at the Canadian Open

Here’s a riddle for you: A Toronto native won the Canadian Open, but Canadians are disappointed that a Canadian didn’t win the Canadian Open. How can that be? Well, it’s not that hard to figure out, but it is an unlikely occurrence. Nathan Green is from Toronto, Australia, and his TaylorMade golf clubs took him to his first PGA tour victory.

The tournament schedule battled rain all week, and had to be completed on Monday, which is the first time that’s happened since 1988. The tournament ended up going to sudden-death playoff where Green defeated Retief Goosen in 2 holes.

Goosen had a 6 foot putt for birdie and the victory on the first playoff hole, but missed it. Green managed to save par after his 2nd shot hit a cart path, and ended up near the scorer’s tent. Green parred the next hole, and Goosen bogeyed, giving Green the victory, and a check for just under $1 million.

Here’s what was in Green’s Bag this week

Driver TaylorMade R9 460 10.5°
Fairway Woods TaylorMade Tour Burner 14.5, 17.5
Irons TaylorMade Tour Preferred (3-PW)
Wedges TaylorMade RAC (54, 60)
Putter Odyssey Tour White Hot XG #3
Ball Titleist Pro V1

My old high school golf teammate tipped me off that a kid we used to play against, Lief Olson, is not only playing on the PGA tour, but had a very cool hole-in-one this week, which made Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays. He’s obviously just getting started, since the car he won for the hole-in-one is worth more than he’s won on tour. He played for Mullen High School in Denver, which I’m pretty sure is a private Catholic school. They always had a really good golf team.

Olson finished tied for 36th place at -8, and won $24,544. There was a PGA record of 8 aces in the Canadian Open. Here’s the video of the hole in one:

Here’s the tally for the winning clubs on tour by brand so far this season:

TaylorMade – 9
Nike – 6
Titleist – 5
Callaway – 2
Cobra – 2
Ping – 1
Mizuno – 2
Cleveland – 1
Miscellaneous – 1
